KTJ Speech Day 2008

A year had passed since I last stepped foot into the prestigious Kolej Tuanku Jaafar.

Got invited again to attend their annual Speech Day held last Saturday which is quite similar to the one last year.

Seated among VIP's and Guest of Honor sure is a pain coz i've gotta behave as every bit of body gesture are sorta being 'watched'. But...............I still manage to chat up some girls there. =)

More details on that next time.

Here's the synopsis of the movie from Rotten Tomatoes:

Patrick "McDreamy" Dempsey leads this big-budget romantic comedy, making optimal use of his many swoon-inducing charms. Dempsey is Tom, a wealthy womanizer living the high life in New York City. He happily hops from bed to bed, living by a firm set of rules that keeps him from becoming romantically entangled with anyone. The only woman he makes time for is his dear college friend, Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), whom he sees weekly, and whom he adores.

When Hannah suddenly takes off for Scotland on a job assignment, Tom misses her terribly,

and has a dramatic realization about their relationship. He makes a plan to tell her about it as soon as she gets back, but of course she returns with a handsome Scottish fiancé (Kevin McKidd) in tow.

To make matters worse, she informs Tom that she must make wedding plans rather quickly, and would he please, please, please be her Maid of Honor? In typical rom-com fashion, the tale quickly escalates into over-the-top, barely believable plot twists, forcing the viewer to turn a blind eye to any holes in the story and instead focus on the pretty clothes and Dempsey's dimples. It shifts into full-on fantasy mode, with rugged lads on horseback, Scottish castles, and gargantuan New York apartments that only Bill Gates himself could afford. Monaghan is likeable and lovely in her role as the confused bride, but the star here is undoubtedly Dempsey.

Overall, a rather entertaining romance comedy but gets a bit cheesy through halfway as all the events are rather predictable.

My rating: 7.5/10 (Recommended for a movie night out on a weekday)

updated:

ok.... So I was kehpoh and detoured to S2 - Garden Ave. just to watch the FREE live concert IN A PETROL STATION & camwhore snap some pix of Gary.

But looks like he FFK-ed..

Pix taken at 6:20pm. One small little tent and no signs of the pop star.

Pix taken at 6:30; STILL NO SIGNS of Gary.....

Elderly uncle and aunties that looks like they just came out from the shower room probably freaked Gary out that the poor fella went into hiding coz he made an appearance later that evening in Jusco.

*LOL!

--------------------------------------------------------------

JON WONG! u'd betta not be kidding me on this one!

What the heck is a pop star like Gary Cao Ge doing in a petrol station????

YES! This IS the Gary Chaw that did the cheesy mandarin cover version of Karyn White's - Superwoman.

You've probably guessed it by now why the price of petrol went up; To pay the appearance fee of a pop star!

Arrgh!

Kung Fu Panda Review

Watched it last nite and it was really hilarious! This is NOT your usual animated kung fu cartoon.

It's so funny, it'll make you pee in your pants keep you in stiches throughout the movie. The movies starts off with Po (who's alwiz daydreaming on being a kung fu master one day) who helps out his foster father at the noodles shop. Things start to really kick off when Master Oogway (watch the movie to know why they came up wit such a name) calls for a selection of the "Dragon Warrior". The only problem is that the defining characteristic appears to be that he is the laziest of all the animals in ancient China.

Funny guy; Jack Black who gave the voice to Po

This is a story of determination and perseverance. Po the Panda,is a clumsy, gluttonous Panda who dreams of being a Kung Fu master. He got a shot at this dream when he was chosen by Oogway, the wise turtle master, to be the next Dragon Warrior in an extremely hilarious bizaare turn of events.

Familiar essential life's lessons are injected in the film, striking lines which reminds us that living a life is like a martial art, not just about breaking boards or bricks or disabling an opponent but is self-discipline, and self-control.

Something tells me that Master Shifu is somehow related to Master Yoda

Here's some Notable Lines that had me in the movie:

1. There is no charge for awesomeness or attractiveness. << *LOL! watch the opening and u'd know why.

2. There is no secret ingredient, You just have to believe. << this is just a conviction, what we have deep within is the most special ingredient to our success. Our beliefs could lead us to where we want to be. The secret lies deep within us, and we just have to discover it in the most number of ways we could imagine.

3. The true path to victory is to find your opponent's weaknesses, and make him suffer for it. << *mean stare*

4. A real warrior never quits << We're all warriors in the battle of life and quitting shld nvr be an option

5. There are no accidents. There is no good news or bad news. There is just news. << All things happen for a reason.

6. The mark of a true hero is humility. <<>

7. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift, that is why it is called the "present" << Live in the now. Don't waste time. Seize the day. Enjoy each day as if it were the last day. Do not let the past rob you off your effectiveness today. While the past is ancient history, do not get overly carried away with the worryings of the future, which is a promissory note. The time is now, today, the present. So live each day to the fullest and celebrate life in all its wonder.

and finally.....

8. "we do not wash our pits in the pool of sacred tears"

*LOL!

Petrol Price Increase & Subsidy Scheme

It shocked every Malaysian that the petrol price had just rocketed up 40.6% today!

From RM 1.92 to RM 2.70 per litre!

To make it simple, that's if u usually pump in RM 100 for a tankful of petrol, u'd need to pay RM 140 just to get the same amount of fuel in your tank after this increase.

One of the rediculous measures is that our beloved Gov had introduced a scheme to so-called "cushion" the impact of this, by giving RM 625/yr cash rebate in postal order when u renew ur roadtax (for cars below 2000cc).

It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that the rebate only sums up to RM52/mth worth of petrol subsidy. Who NEEDS that 52 bucks a month extra when the hike is so much higher? It's jst not gonna help.

While you're still scratching your head (or other areas) over this, the Electricity Tariff has also gone up! <<-- Click to read on.

Be prepared for a shocker.
